Adoption Guidelines and Requirements

We strive to match each dog to the home that will best suit its unique personality and needs.
For instance, not all dogs do well with children.  The ones that don't would therefore not be
placed in a home with kids.  By carefully screening not only the applicants but the dogs as
well, we hope to achieve the best possible match so that both the dog and the family will
enjoy a happy, successful future together.  The dog you are interested in may not be a good
match for your situation.  Also understand that many times, we receive dozens of
applications for each dog.  We place the dog in the home that best matches its personality
and preferences. Before applying to adopt, please be sure that you agree to all of the
following:

-Bare Paws Rescue covers the eastern half of the US only. We do not adopt outside of
this area.

-We do not ship dogs. It is the adopter's responsibility to arrange to pick the dog up.

-You must be 25 years of age or older to adopt

-Adoption fee is $300.00 for dogs over 1 year of age. Puppies under 1 year are $400.00

-You must submit an application and be approved before you can meet any of our foster
dogs since they are all in private foster homes.

-Dogs must always be treated with kindness, compassion and patience.  Only
positive-reinforcement training shall be used.

-Dogs will not be kept crated on a regular basis

- You agree to provide all necessary veterinary care and keep the dog up to date on
recommended vaccinations.  You also agree to keep the dog on heartworm preventative
year round.  All other pets in the home must be up to date on vaccinations and dogs
must be on heartworm preventative in order to be approved.

-Dogs adopted through Bare Paws Rescue may never be left outside unattended.
Due to their small size, they are at risk from a variety of predators including hawks,
owls and coyotes.

-We cannot adopt  to homes with dog doors, as they enable dogs to be outside unattended,
exposing them to risk from predators and theft.

-Electronic fences are not an acceptable means of containment . The failure rate of e-fences
is rather high, and many dogs have been lost after crossing the invisible barrier and then
being unwilling to cross it again to return to the yard.  Electronic fences also do not protect
the dog from any stray dogs or wild animals that may be in the area.

-Dogs must be kept on-leash at all times when not in a securely fenced area.

~Bare Paws does not adopt to homes with children under 6 due to the small size of most of
our rescue dogs

-In the event that you ever become unable to keep the dog, it MUST be returned to Bare Paws
Rescue.  It shall never be brought to a shelter or otherwise given away or sold

-Bare Paws Rescue does not adopt dogs to homes with unaltered pets unless there is a
medical reason why altering is not advisable per the vet

-You agree that you release Bare Paws Rescue from all liability and/or future claims of any
kind.  You are solely responsible for any veterinary or other bills related to the dog that you
adopt.  You hold Bare Paws Rescue blameless in any and all future events related to the
adoption and ownership of the dog that you adopt

-Please be aware that we are all volunteers with full times jobs and families and do rescue
work in our spare time.  The application process can take up to 2 weeks, so please be patient.

~References will be checked.  Please call your veterinarian to let them know we will be
calling, and give them permission to release information to us.   A home visit prior to the
adoption is also required.

-Adopters must sign a contract acknowledging the above stipulations, as well as others

-Bare Paws Rescue reserves the right to deny any application without explanation.  A home
visit is required prior to being approved to adopt.

-Any application that does not meet the above-stated requirements will NOT be processed or
acknowledged.

If you do not agree to the above terms, please do not submit an application.  Otherwise,
we look forward to hearing from you!
